George has competed all over Scotland, with junior section success at festivals such as Perth, Banchory, Oban, Aboyne, Kirriemuir and NAAFC Mussleburgh. His first senior competition was the open class at Oban in 2012 at 15 years old, gaining first place and an invitation to the Masters competition the following year. Since then he has enjoyed Senior success at various competitions, and was the winner at the last ever Glenfiddich Fiddle championships in 2015. He has also, along with younger brother Stuart, performed alongside Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain.
George is from Tarves in Aberdeenshire and started playing violin at school when he was 9 years old under the tuition of Judi Nicholson. He soon developed a keen interest in playing traditional fiddle and after 8 months of playing, entered his first competition at the BanchoryStrathspey and Reel Festival, in which he was placed second.
On moving to secondary school at Meldrum Academy, George continued classical violin with Karen Harper, gaining his ABRSM grade 8 in November 2013. He also studied music as a subject, achieving an A in Advanced Higher in 2014, his final year of school. During his time at secondary school, his interest in traditional fiddle increased with tuition and encouragement from Paul Anderson.
