Class: PIPES 2/3
Day: Wednesday


This class is suitable for players of mouth or bellows-blown small pipes pitched in ‘A’ who wish to develop their technique and repertoire. There will be encouragement to learn tunes by ear and an emphasis on playing in sessions. Particular attention will be paid to smallpipe embellishment and adornment of tunes and there will be discussion of the principles of harmony.

Tutor: John Dickens

Location: Harlaw Academy

Experience: Should be able to play scales and a few tunes at strathspey speed.

Maximum number: 12

Practical tips: Mouth or bellows-blown small pipes (preferably in ‘A’) should be used. Practice pipes with an ‘A’ chanter (some chanters are available for purchase at a minimal cost) are also suitable. Note that there are two sets of small pipes available for hire from SCaT.
