Cornucopia of classes

A CORNUCOPIA OF CLASSES

The Scottish Culture and Traditions Association (SCaT) launched its programme of evening classes at the NAFCO Gala Concert on Saturday 29th July. In its tenth year of adult evening classes, there are 30 classes on offer. Absolute beginners are welcome in the ceilidh and step dance classes, in whistle, bodhran classes and a beginners’ fiddle class. There are classes for experienced traditional musicians in fiddle, accordion, whistle, pipes, guitar and clarsach – with many classes for intermediate players.

With an emphasis on playing together, there are also two classes for Mixed Instruments – every instrument from whistle to double bass welcome!  And we have not forgotten the singers – with three classes for the first time.

Susan Kirkwood, SCaT Chairman said: “we provide an enjoyable, friendly community for people to learn and we are delighted by the number who go on to participate in sessions and performances”.

Full programme leaflets are being distributed in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire or are available by contacting the SCaT office (email office@scottishculture.org or phone 01224 591900).  Taster Days will be held on Saturday 26th August (Harlaw Academy, Aberdeen) and 2nd September (Betteridge Centre, Newtonhill) and enrolment evenings are at Harlaw Academy on 30th and 31st August.

The Scottish Culture and Traditions Association activities are supported by Aberdeen City Council, by the National Lottery through the Scottish Arts Council and by local organisations and individual supporters and volunteers.
