Frances has been teaching with SCaT since 2006. Currently studying for a PhD in Ethnomusicology the Elphinstone Institute, University of Aberdeen. She previously completed a degree in Music at SOAS, University of London, in 2004. She has lived in Aberdeen since August 2005.
Frances started playing Shetland and Scottish music on concertina whilst living in the Shetland Islands and has played professionally in the band, Sølan, since 1999, with which she has toured extensively throughout the UK and in Norway, Denmark and Holland. She also performs in other line-ups including Aberdeen-based group Dance Macabre. Previous tutor experience has been giving workshops and individual tuition in concertina and at festivals, clubs and privately. Previous experience includes piano, which she started playing at the age of seven, and she has recently taken up playing the fiddle.
