Frances Wilkins is an ethnomusicologist and researcher in Scottish and North American music including the fiddle traditions, Gaelic and Scots song, sacred music, and free reed instruments. She completed her PhD at the Elphinstone Institute in 2009, and is currently a visiting lecturer in Scottish music and Ethnomusicology at Aberdeen University. She performs regularly on English concertina in concert and ceilidh bands including Blyde Lasses, Kydd Wilkins, and Danse McCabre, and has toured in Britain, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Holland, the UAE, and New Zealand. As an ethnomusicologist she travels widely researching and lecturing in traditional music, and regularly delving into the archives to find fresh material to teach an perform.
Frances has taught mixed instrument classes for SC&T since 2006, and in Spring 2012 will be teaching a class on Scottish musical traditions.
